Air Ambulance Helicopter Base
Polish Air Ambulance Medical Service is equipped with 21 permanent bases and 1 temporary base. Currently, it consists of 27 Eurocopter EC 13 and 2 Piaggio P.18 Avanti turboprop.
A seasonal base, located in Zegrze Pomorskie, operates from June to September. In the past, its functionality was limited because the helicopters could not land after dusk. But, a need to extend the base operations emerged so it was decided to install the FATO lighting. (Final Approach and Take-off Area) and TLOF lighting (Touchdown and Lift-off Area) and the wind indicator lighting. Before the final decision was made, the pilots had a chance to try out the lighting in a base in Kielce. Doing so, they could test the range of the lights and how the lighting is controlled from a helicopter via radio. Currently, the base in Zegrze Pomorskie is equipped with a solar hybrid lighting which can be charged in three different ways: using solar panels, a battery or an electric power grid.
